Myomectomy, a surgical removal of the fibroids. There are two types, one is done from the inside of the uterus (hysteroscopic myomectomy) and the other is on the outside or wall of the uterus (done either laparoscopically or through an abdominal incision). If the fibroid inside the uterus can be removed this is an excellent way to control the bleeding.

Myomectomy is a minimal invasive technique that is effective and helps to preserve the uterus. A myomectomy can be performed several different ways. Depending on the size, number and location of your fibroids there are different ways to perform myomectomy. They are:

Abdominal myomectomy: it is a surgical procedure in which incisions are made in the lower abdomen and fibroids are removed. There may be a requirement of blood because of heavy blood loss. Risks involve development of infection after the surgery.

Laparoscopic myomectomy: it is a minimal invasive technique where a slender shaped instrument is inserted inside the abdomen after a small incision and with the help of laparoscope the fibroids are removed. Risks involve re development of fibroids. Also, your uterus may be weaker after surgery. Therefore, women planning to become pregnant in the future are usually encouraged to have an abdominal myomectomy.

Hysteroscopic Myomectomy: it is done in case of submucosal fibroids. A long, slender "telescope" is placed through the cervix into the uterine cavity. Fluid is introduced into the uterine cavity to lift apart the walls. Instruments passed through the hysteroscope are used to shave off the submucosal fibroids.
