What is the cause of menopause?

The average age for menopause in India is around 51 when the ovaries cease to release eggs.

At birth, the ovaries hold about 1 to 2 million eggs, but by the start of menstruation, only about 400,000 remain due to a natural process called atresia (a natural part of aging). Atresia is one of the factors that contribute to menopause.

Menopause causes:

• Age: Typically occurs between 45 and 55 years old.
• Hormonal Changes: Decreased production of oestrogen and progesterone.
• Genetics: Family history can influence the timing.
• Medical Treatments: Chemotherapy, radiation, or oophorectomy.
• Health Conditions: Autoimmune disorders or primary ovarian insufficiency.
